How to defeat temptations.

Temptation is that strong desire to do something you know that is wrong and the things you should not do.

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.  But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.  Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.  Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.  Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.  Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.  Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:1‭-‬13 KJV.

The Bible is written for our examples,  we are to learn from the mistakes of other people so that we don't fall into the same temptations.

You must learn to refocus your attention  on something else.
In James 4:7 we are told to resist the devil not the temptation

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 KJV.

Please take note of these truths.
1. Anytime you want you try to block a thought out of your mind, you will only succed to drive it deeper into your memory.
2. It is only by resisting that you can reinforce.
3. You cannot defeat a temptation by fighting the feeling.
4.the more you think about it the more it consumes you.
5. The battle of temptation is won and lost in the mind.

Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.  In conclusion, my brothers and sisters, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable.
Philippians 4:6‭-‬8 GNBUK.

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Proverbs 4:23 NLT.

Instead of fighting the feelings, change the channels of your mind through prayer, especially praying in the Holy Ghost.

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Jude 1:20 KJV.

6. Rememer that whatever gets your attention will eventually get you.

“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.
Job 31:1 NLT.

Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.
Psalms 119:37 NLT.

7. The power of suggestion naturally moves us towards what we focus our attention on.
Don't forget that your mind is the most vulnerable part of you. So be careful with it.

Therefore to defeat temptations you must Reprogram your mind.

1.occupy your mind with the word of God.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV.

2. By resisting the Devil as specified by our manufacturer.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee you.
James 4:7 KJV.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ephesians 6:10‭-‬18 KJV.

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.  And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.  Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,  And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.  Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;  And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Matthew 4:1‭-‬11 KJV.

3.  Reveal your struggles and temptations to your spiritual mentor or a Godly matured friend.

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.  For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.  Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?  And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9‭-‬12 KJV.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:16 KJV.

4.through prophetic dimension.
Knowing the plan of the enemy before they strike and obeying the instruction given by the Spirit of God.

And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
Hosea 12:13 KJV.

A lot of people have enjoyed the previllage of the prophetic. Dangers and temptations that are waiting on the way to happen have been averted by the spirit of God through the prophetic.

5. By engaging your feet.

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1 Corinthians 6:18 KJV.

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22 KJV.

In conclusion, we should know that temptations are constant but we have been programmed to overcome them if only we can discipline ourselves by obeying the word of God and the voice of the spirit of God.
You must learn how to resist the devil for him to flee and you must also be conscious of when you are to flee giving the conditions you are expose to.
God bless you all.
